Sales Duty Story | A Ukrainian Couple Walks Into the Dealership — and Drives Away with a TIGUAN

It was my turn to handle showroom duty that day. I thought it would be just another ordinary day, but then a Ukrainian couple walked into the showroom.

They seemed very polite, so I approached them and greeted them in fluent English. I asked about their needs, and they told me they were looking for a new SUV and were particularly interested in the Volkswagen TIGUAN.

I took them through the vehicle and introduced its exterior, interior, spaciousness, and features while learning more about what they were really looking for. The conversation went smoothly, and the couple paid close attention to the car, asking questions along the way.

However, after going through the features one by one, we discovered that the TIGUAN we had in stock was missing a few features that were particularly important to them.

If my only goal had been to close the deal quickly, I could have simply tried to sell them the vehicle we already had. But I believe that buying a car is not like buying just any ordinary product. A car is something that will accompany its owners for years to come, so they deserve to get one that truly meets their needs.

I explained the situation clearly and honestly, then contacted other dealerships to see if they had a vehicle with the right specifications available.

I made call after call, checking the features one by one, hoping to find a TIGUAN that would genuinely meet their expectations.

Fortunately, I finally found a suitable vehicle through one of my industry contacts! After confirming the specifications, vehicle condition, and other important details, I arranged to have the car transferred to our dealership. This meant the couple wouldn’t have to compromise simply because the vehicle we had in stock didn’t have everything they wanted.

When the couple realized that I was willing to put in extra time and effort to find the right car for them, and that we had finally found one that matched their expectations, they began to smile with satisfaction.

From there, everything went much more smoothly. We confirmed the vehicle details, discussed the purchasing arrangements, and eventually, the deal was closed!

Looking back, the key to this successful sale was not just speaking fluent English or having a thorough knowledge of the vehicle’s features. It was being willing to go the extra mile and find a solution when the customer’s needs didn’t match the vehicles currently available in our inventory.

Language is a tool for communication, professionalism is the foundation of a successful sale, and solving customers’ problems is what ultimately earns their trust and business.

Every customer who walks into the showroom represents a potential sale. Being on showroom duty isn’t about sitting around and waiting for customers to show up. It’s about making the most of every opportunity by putting our knowledge, professionalism, and commitment into action.

Today, I successfully closed a TIGUAN deal, and it reminded me once again:

A car can be sourced from another dealership, and the right features can be found with a little extra effort. But a customer’s trust must be earned, one step at a time.
